Augusta Track Project

Augusta Schools is thrilled to share that after four years of working, planning and fundraising by countless people, Phase 1 of the track and field project is now complete! This initial phase included extensive site preparation and dirt work, installation of a new underground irrigation system and pump, concrete curbing, and the construction of long and triple jump runways with sand pits. Fresh sod was also laid across the infield, finishing the space beautifully. A big thank you to the track and football field committee who started this dream years ago, Matt Bean for giving of his time to step in as our engineering consultant and getting things completed when we feared we were losing steam, and James from GreenUp Lawn, Landscape, and Sprinklers for doing beautiful work in the tight timeframe we had.

We’re also proud to share that Phase 1 was completed entirely through donated funds—a true reflection of the generosity and commitment of our Augusta community, students, alumni and supporters. Thank you to everyone who contributed, no matter the amount. Your support has laid the foundation—literally and figuratively—for a facility that will serve students for years to come.

With the groundwork in place, we’re now ready for Phase 2, which includes completing the track surface. Of course, to make that happen, additional fundraising will be necessary. We are currently applying for numerous grants and will be sharing more information soon about how to get involved and help bring this project to the finish line. Again, thank you for your support.

Also, be on the lookout for information soon about a community event to come celebrate and (gently) break in the new field together—it’s going to be a great day!

If you feel an urge to donate to this project, please mail checks to Augusta Public Schools, P.O. box 307.
